Hi, I’m Bobby Housel
This is me on a roadtrip adventure on the California coast.
When this photo was taken, the sun was setting and I was enjoying a stroll around the beach before a sunset dinner.
I’m not usually in California, and I don’t often wear Hawaiian shirts, although this is one of my favorites.
Over the last few years I’ve spent much of my time here, at the University of Michigan, up until recently graduating. Sometimes I’m at my hometown, Cleveland, Ohio. I used to often be at my high school, which I love, University School. These days I’m residing in Liberia (West Africa), serving in the Peace Corps!
This above picture is Max and I. Max is great and one of the many people that accompany me on my adventures. We put on suits and were reporting as journalists at a big Michigan football game in this picture.
So, who’s this Bobby guy?
I love to make stuff
I realized I loved to make things when I fell in love with writing in middle school.
It was the first thing that I understood I was good at. I started writing short stories and poetry in middle school and I’ve been writing ever since. This picture is me holding the first book I ever published in 2022.
The second thing I realized I loved to make was beautiful photography, and later, videos. This is me holding my big fancy camera rig.
In high school I took a photography class with Mr. Starinsky that changed my life. I’ve been running around with my camera making media and telling stories ever since.
In high school I also realized that I love to make businesses. Entrepreneurship is a word that I learned at 14, and it is still one of the most important words in my vocabulary. This is me after I won a startup pitch contest pitching my first startup in high school.
I love to bring people together
The top picture is from the only “Yash Party” I’m aware has ever taken place.
Basically I knew 2 kids that were both named Yash, and they were super cool. I wondered if the rest of the kids named Yash at University of Michigan (there were about 100 others in the email directory) were also really cool. Only way to find out was to throw a party honoring all the Yashs and cold email them all to invite them. About 30 or so Yashs decided to show up; it was awesome.
It’s all about the people.
Everything amazing that has happened to me in my life can be directly tied to an amazing person.
I love to connect amazing people to more amazing people to make sure amazing things keep happening in the world.
The middle picture is a group of amazing entrepreneurs apart of a community I founded called Entrepreneur Power Hour. We are on a mission to create the best environment for entrepreneurs at college to meet, build friendships, and change the world together.
The bottom picture was taken at a party my friend Blake and I threw called the “United Nations” party. We had a theory that humans aren’t really that different. We come from all over the world, speak all different languages, but at the end of the day, we are all humans.
So we decided to throw a party where we brought students together from over 25 different countries to learn from each other and share stories from our homes. It was really fun and enlightening.
I love to adventure and I firmly believe nothing is impossible
I’ve loved watching Saturday Night Live and standup comedy for as long as I can remember. I’ve always dreamt of doing standup, so I found a group of aspiring comedians at my college, I trained with them and wrote my 7 minute standup routine, practiced it for a month, and found a local venue who let me do standup in front of a crowd of 50+. It’s one of the most thrilling things I’ve ever done.
My friend Sid (standing next to me here) knows my appetite for adventures and finding ways into places most people only dream of going. When he sent me a link to the Forbes 30 Under 30 summit in 2022, I responded, “We’re Going.” We didn’t let the nearly $1,200 price tag deter us, and with enough hustle, got to attend completely for free.
As I mentioned, I love to make things, and that includes videos and film. The pinnacle of video creation is a once a year film festival in South France called the “Cannes Film Festival.” Every year the world’s best filmmakers come to Cannes to celerbate the art of filmmaking. It’s impossible to buy tickets to the festival and you must be invited. It’s one of the hardest events in the world to attend, but I managed to finesse a 4 day all access pass. This is me on the red carpet after the world premiere of a French movie.
I’m always working on something
As of right now, I am currently residing in Liberia (West Africa), serving as a healthcare volunteer in the Peace Corps. Accompanied by my fiancée Therese, we are excited to serve others and learn about a world far different than the one we grew up in. If you’re curious to follow along on our adventure and share in our learning, feel free to check out our email newsletter linked here.
My partner for everything!
Lastly, I’d be remiss not to mention my forever adventure buddy and best friend. In every endeavor, no matter the nature, I always know I have one partner that will never fail me.
Therese and I are always looking for our next passion project, life changing friendship, or crazy adventure, so know that we’re always one quick text away…
